The Voice of Russia correspondent shared details of Sergei Lavrov's statement made at the opening of bilateral Russia-US talks in the 2+2 format. Lavrov said Moscow had prepared a series of documents for signing at the next meeting between Obama and Putin.

"We prepared a series of documents for the next stage when the Russian and US leaders meet so that they could sign them," Lavrov underscored.

"We have been preparing a document on strengthening cooperation to fight drugs threat," he said. They also prepared an agreement on cooperation in nuclear energy research.

Russia's Foreign Ministry confirmed that the US and Russian Defense Ministers would have consultations in the 2+2 format in Washington.

"According to the agreements reached during Putin and Obama's meetings at the G8 summit in Lough Erne, there will be joint consultations of the US and Russian Interior and Defense Ministers," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.

"One of the main issues on the agenda will be missile defense which remains a serious irritant to our bilateral relations," a statement says.

Moscow hopes that the American side will "prepare for a serious and constructive dialogue in order to find mutually acceptable decisions on the matter".

The statement also says that prospects of further cooperation in arms control, space security and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction are supposed to be discussed. Besides, the parties are willing to bring up some important questions on cooperation in the military field.

Ministers will exchange their opinions on the most heated regional problems.

"As far as Syria is concerned, we have to evaluate progress on the realization of the previously reached agreements to hold a Geneva-2 summit in order to resolve the Syrian conflict. Besides, the situation in Afghanistan in the context of the upcoming international forces withdrawal, the situation in the Korean peninsula and the Iranian nuclear programme will be on the agenda," Russia's Foreign Ministry said.
