US Missile Shield Threatens Balance in Asia-Pacific Region

MISSILE DEFENSE

The United States move to send a missile shield to the Pacific island of Guam could upset the strategic balance of power in the Asia-Pacific Region, a Russian defense official said on Saturday.
Speaking at the security conference Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said: "We are concerned about the unilateral deployment of anti-ballistic missile defense elements [in the Asia-Pacific Region]. We believe such actions could undermine the foundation of the strategic balance and lead to a polarization of powers in the region."
Antonov said "firm guarantees" were needed to prove that "the missile shield potential is adequate to the declared goals and will not upset global and regional balances."
In April, the Pentagon said it was deploying a missile defense shield to the western Pacific island of Guam, a US territory, to protect the US and its allies in response to increasingly hostile rhetoric from North Korea.
The Russian defense official said Russia believes peace in the region should be based on a dialogue, cooperation and confidence, and warned against a military buildup.
"Russia calls for fulfilling the principle of integrity of security in the region when security of each country goes hand in hand with everyone's security, when all the participating countries stop strengthening own security at the expense of the security of others," he said.

dufus...in case you aint noticed, america has shamelessly stayed out of the fight all the way back to the beginning before all the other outside elements like al qaeda filled the vacuum we isolationists left wide open.

..back when it was just students and ordinary folks yearning for just a few basic freedoms...you have it ass backwards...if ever america should have stood as a beacon for freedom...even more so than libya...it should have been this fight early on...but one thing stood in the way, no oil...so when bush preached about moral obligation to stand against a tirant, and freedom for iraqis...quess what was the real driving force...company profits...cause we still havnt seen the savings at the pump as bush promised for "liberating" the #2 oil producer in the world...its all a shell game...shell oil that is

i was forced to comment off topic by dufus anonymous 1051am...russias backyard isnt anyware near guam...which is a longtime ally...and its hard to fathom why russia would still back a lowlife government like north korea...it appears they will champion any country that is opposed to usa no matter how low on the evolution scale...russia is the greatest threat to human race and world peace as they foment opposition to western democracy at all cost...i can honestly see flaws and failures in my own goverment but what would be the alternative if usa didnt exist? GOD BLESS AMERICA!
